Dealers push warranties

14/12/2009

Used car dealers are selling more warranties to try and compensate for the continuing downturn in sales during the recession, according to the RAC.

The motoring organisation’s warranty division has reported a 30 per cent increase in warranty sales during the fourth quarter of 2009

Dealers are putting greater efforts in to warranty sales, says the organisation, working to both sell more and to increase the coverage sold, with a particular emphasis being placed on used car warranties.

Sales and Marketing Director Ian Simpson said: “Dealers have recognised that warranties are an ideal way to generate extra revenue and have been, with our support, improving their warranty sales programmes in order to maximise the opportunities available. This is something that is very much welcomed by used car customers. In uncertain economic times, they want to avoid unexpected motoring costs.”

Meanwhile, the price of oil has reached its lowest level in two months last week, briefly dropping below $70 a barrel.

US crude fell 84 cents to $69.81 a barrel, before climbing again to $70.13, while London Brent hit $71.58 a barrel.
