Fuelcards.co.uk fuel news: US oil pipeline expansion planned
04/03/2010
Fuelcard holders will be interested to hear that pipeline network and power producer TransCanada has said it is considering allowing North Dakota and Montana to use the proposed Keystone XL pipeline to transport crude oil.
Construction on the 1,980-mile pipeline from Alberta to the Gulf of Mexico is expected to start this year and is part of a $12 billion (£7.98 million) investment in transporting oil from Canada’s oil sands to US refineries.
After initially stating there was insufficient demand to warrant further expansion, TransCanada executives now say that it is “open for business” with US crude producers, after pressure was applied by the two key US states.
If further negotiations are successful, North Dakota and Montana would load crude from its oil fields into the pipeline via a special ‘onramp’.
The proposed pipeline would create around 1,000 jobs in Montana alone.
In other fuel news, the Confederation of British Industry has said the UK could reduce its emissions and save motorists money by making energy-efficient driving a mandatory part of the driving test.
