Fuelcards.co.uk motoring news: Older drivers back refresher course
01/07/2010
New research has found that a majority of older motorists believe refresher driving courses would benefit people over 70 years old.
A poll by the RAC of more than 1,150 drivers has found that 84 per cent of those aged over 70 years support refresher courses.
A quarter of the motorists aged over 70 years said they lacked the confidence to drive in winter weather.
The refresher course would focus on driving in wintry conditions, at night, and on motorways and dual carriageways.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has welcomed this new report. Neil Greig IAM director of Policy and Research said: “With ever growing numbers of older drivers looking to stay safe and maintain independence, it is encouraging to see that there is a high degree of support for refresher courses.”
The poll also showed how 98 per cent of the motorists in the poll were worried about people driving without tax or car insurance and 96 per cent were concerned over drink and drug driving.
In related news, learner drivers using third party online booking services for their driving tests could find themselves paying as much as 65 per cent extra, reports the AA.
