Fuel Cards News Motoring Updates: Flying the kite

09/07/2010

Robert Halfon, the MP for Harlow, has tabled a parliamentary motion calling for the official adoption of the British Standards Institute (BSI) Kite Mark for garages.

The move follows the MP’s appearance on a wide-ranging radio programme with motoring personality Quentin Willson which examined the issue of poor garage servicing.

According to a new YouGov survey commissioned by BSI Kitemark, more than 50 per cent of people who have had their vehicles serviced in a garage lack confidence that the work they have paid for has been carried out to a satisfactory level.

To qualify for the BSI Kitemark, garages must meet defined standards in the areas of customer service, satisfaction and facilities. These include waiting areas for customers, quality workmanship and transparent billing.

The MP said: "The Government needs to review protection for motorists when they are visiting a garage, with over half of the population not confident in the work that garages have carried out.”

Earlier this week, new research revealed that 93 per cent of motorists would recommend that friends and family should use one of Motor Code’s 6,200 nationwide garages.
