Car production and demand in the EU has started to recover in the first months of 2010 compared to the very low levels of production in 2009.
These figures have been released in the latest ACEA Economic Report, published today (12 July).
According to the report, there has been a recorded recovery in new passenger car production of 34 per cent over three months, compared to the first quarter of 2009.
The production of vans is also 35 per cent below the level before the economic crisis in 2008; although it has seen a 51 per cent increase in the first three months of 2010.
In units produced, the UK has had the highest increase in car production with 72 per cent compared to the first quarter of last year.
In 2010, demand for new passenger cars in the EU continued to grow month-by-month, before a seven per cent decline in April, and a further nine per cent drop in May.
Meanwhile, Business Secretary Vince Cable has welcomed the news that General Motors has signed a number of deals worth over £100 million.
