Fuel Card Industry News: Peugeot’s pioneering hire scheme
14/07/2010
Peugeot has launched a new approach to vehicle hire in the UK which could see businesses routinely renting a wide range of cars, scooters, vans and electric and pedal bikes.
The offer, called ‘Mu, from the French verb ‘mouvoir’ meaning to move, is being piloted at two UK dealerships – one in Bristol and one in London. Mobility credits are purchased online before pre-booking the vehicle required, for example, a van to transport heavy items, a saloon for business use, or a bike for city meetings.
The company claims that Mu offers more choice and control than conventional daily rental and that prices have been kept keen to compete with both rentals and car clubs. .
For example, a 207 costs £25 for half-a-day, while a Boxer is £35.
Peugeot UK Marketing Director Christian Stein points to the potential of helping fleet managers who are looking to reduce overall car usage as part of their eco strategy or cost management programmes. He said: “We would love to run Mu for fleets, perhaps as Mu Professional.”
The company claims that businesses have already expressed an interest in using the scheme to give drivers access to short-term rentals.
Meanwhile, the latest ACEA Economic Report has revealed that car production and demand in Europe recovered in the first months of 2010, reversing last year’s very low production levels.
