Fuelcards News Automotive Updates: new fleet car registrations rise in June
21/07/2010
June was a very successful month for the fleet car market, according to figures showing a 25.3 per cent rise in new registrations last month to 100,250 units.
The figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers (SMMT) saw Vauxhall take the top spot for fleet sales with Ford coming second; Vauxhall registered 22,018 cars compared to Ford’s 13,379.
Vauxhall saw a massive 77.6 per cent rise in registrations compared to the same month in 2009. These were led by the Astra with 8,477 transactions, followed by the Corsa with 6,032 sales.
Business Car magazine attributed the rise in overall fleet sales to returning confidence across both the rental and company car market.
VW secured third position for sales, ahead of BMW and Peugeot.
SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt said: “The results indicate improved business confidence and a strengthening economic recovery.”
In other news, VW Group has announced it is to build a new plant in China capable of producing up to 300,000 vehicles a year.
