Business Fuel Cards News Motoring Updates: Record number of green vehicle orders for fleets
26/07/2010
Fleets are ordering record numbers of environmentally-friendly vehicles, according to a report from contract hire and leasing company ALD Automotive.
Record numbers of green models have lowered the average CO2 emissions of new company cars delivered in the first six months of 2010 to an all-time low of 143.9g/km. By contrast, in 2005, the average CO2 emissions of vehicles delivered to fleets was 161.4g/km.
The company, which operates more than 52,000 vehicles, attributes this move towards low-emission cars to fleet managers’ attempting to reduce running costs. The wider Government agenda, to link a range of taxes and allowances to the level of CO2 vehicles produce, is also thought to be a contributing factor.
ALD Automotive marketing director David Yates added: “Hybrid and electric vehicles will be a niche choice for most fleets.
“While there is interest in these vehicles, [low-emission] petrol and diesel vehicles are a known quantity and deliver, in many cases, exactly what fleets and drivers want – low emissions, excellent fuel economy and a desirable total cost of ownership.”
In other news, a survey by breakdown specialists Autonational rescue has suggested that two-thirds of motorists don’t fully understand how much money they could save by checking tyre pressures properly.
